Why a range, not a number
Two people the same height can both be perfectly healthy several kilos apart, because build, muscle and frame all differ. A single target number hides that; a range is the more honest answer.
This range comes straight from the normal BMI band (18.5 to 24.9) applied to your height, the same band a BMI calculator checks your weight against, just read in the other direction: height in, weight range out.
Using it well
Anywhere inside the range is a reasonable place to be. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict, especially if you carry more muscle than average or have a health condition a calculator cannot see.
If your current weight sits outside it, treat the nearer edge of the range as a realistic first goal rather than trying to reach the middle in one move.
