Calorie Calculator for Foods
Looking for a nutrition calculator that covers everything you need? With the free online calorie calculator from Diat you get an extensive food database, making it quick to track what you eat and break down the nutritional values in your daily diet. It covers everyday foods and branded products from the supermarket alike. Search for an item, open it, and pick a serving size.
Our calculator does not stop at the calorie figure. It splits every item into protein, carbohydrates and fat, and depending on the food it will also show sugar, fibre, salt, cholesterol and water content, along with vitamins and minerals. We show the most important numbers first, so a serving takes a second to read rather than a minute to decode.
Our Calorie Calculator App
With Diat you are not only getting a calorie table, you are getting a calorie counter as well. The app makes it simple to record and count everything you eat, which is what actually moves the needle: the tracking people keep up is the tracking that works. It is free on the App Store and Google Play.
Whether you want to lose weight, maintain it or gain it, Diat tells you what you need to know about your own diet, from calorie intake and nutrient distribution to your progress over time. It remembers the foods you eat often, lets you build your own meals, keeps track of the activity you log, and shows the lot back to you in charts you can read at a glance.
Calculating your Calories
Your daily calorie requirement is made of two parts. The first is your basal metabolic rate: what your body burns keeping you alive at complete rest (breathing, circulation, brain, cell repair). For most people that is between 60% and 70% of everything they burn in a day, which is why it dominates the result.
The second part is everything you do on top of that: work, walking, training, even digesting your food. We apply an activity factor to your basal rate to account for it, which is why the calculator asks how your days actually go rather than how often you exercise. Someone on their feet all day burns more than someone who trains hard three times a week and sits for the rest of it.
Our calculators use the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, which is better validated in modern populations than the older Harris–Benedict formula and is the same equation the Diat app uses. Every result is an estimate: bodies differ, and no formula can see your metabolism. Treat the number as a starting point, track for two or three weeks, and adjust from what actually happens on the scale.
